Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. SOIL Art Gallery is an artist-run, not-for-profit gallery in Seattle, Washington, USA. Located in the newly renovated Tashiro Kaplan Building on 3rd and Yesler, Soil has a rotating membership of 20 - 24 artists. It has received substantial local as well as national press attention. Founded in 1995, SOIL exists as an alternative venue for artists to exhibit, develop, and advance their work. SOIL succeeds at this by having open submissions, where every six months anyone can submit a show proposal. All proposals are viewed by the membership and accepted or declined on a 2/3 vote. In this way, SOIL can bring both prominent and unknown artists and curators into the established Pioneer Square environment. SOIL shows a different exhibition each month, taking part in Pioneer Square's First Thursday artwalk tradition.
