Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Sokkie is a style of music and dance unique to Southern Africa and popular mostly with Afrikaners. Sokkie dance is a style of social ballroom dance with a partner. It is also referred to in Afrikaans as "langarm", a term used to describe the style of dance at a sokkie. The word sokkie refers to the way people dance in their socks, without shoes. This is not always the case, but this type of dancing is always called sokkie. Folklore has it that this type of dancing was taken from the American style: Sock Hop. Loopdans, two-step, boogie turns, social foxtrot and boerewals, which is a viennese waltz, are danced in sokkie. Sokkie is not only danced to sokkie music, but can be danced on many types of music, for example hip-hop, trance, rave and pop.
