It was the second UK single from the album, released on 5 January 2009, and is notable for not being released on CD. On the 7" vinyl in the UK, there is a "special extended version" of Song to Self, which features a middle 8 and an additional chorus. A music video for the song shows only singer Fran Healy to emphasise the theme of loneliness in the lyrics of the song. This video was heavily airplayed in Mexico, specially on VH1 Latin America. A message was posted on the official Travis website requesting fans to make their own videos and to upload them to YouTube. On the release of the single in the UK, the alternative video (which featured the videos made and uploaded by fans) was revealed. Many fans felt let down by the finished video however as only a small number of videos were included and many fans were left out. Shortly after, another video was uploaded and was welcomed by the fans as many more fans were in it.
