It was formerly owned by Ashok Surana, founder of Channel Eight group. It mainly shows old classic Bengali movies, telefilms, movie-related shows and other programmes. This channel was formerly called "Channel Eight Talkies" before its acquisition by Multi Screen Media Private Limited, an arm of Sony Pictures Entertainment. Its movie library comprises over 1,000 titles. The channel's audience mainly consists of people who are in the age group of 18–35 years. There are some shows which are being produced by its former owner, the Channel Eight group. The company even has its own movie production arm called "Channel Eight Motion Pictures".
