The E Mount is a lens mount designed by Sony for their NEX series of camcorders and mirrorless cameras. Initially this mount is implemented in Sony Alpha NEX-3 and NEX-5. E mount integration into Sony camcorder products is provided with the Sony Handycam NEX-VG10. Due to the short flange focal distance of the Sony E mount, many lenses can be adapted to be used on the Sony E mount, although a crop factor will have to be taken into account most of the time, since all current cameras available in this mount are APS-C only. Minolta AF lenses can be used via the Sony LA-EA1 camera mount adapter which has electronic contacts and mechanical diaphragm control. This allows the body to control the aperture of the Minolta AF lens and provides Auto Exposure and Exif data support, but no autofocus (The scheduled firmware release in mid-Oct, 2010 will bring the AF ability for Sony SAM and SSM alpha lenses.).
