He was known for his good looks and was the sports announcer on various shows, slowly becoming a household name. Sumitani graduated from the Department of Economics at Keio University. On May 18, 2006, Sumitani was charged with illegal photography of a minor after videotaping under a high school girl's skirt while riding up an escalator at JR Yokohama Station.
