It was co-written by Charlotte Gordon Cumming, Ron Tom and Sam Harley for the band's debut studio album One Touch (2000) and released as its fourth single in the summer of 2001. The song reached the top thirty in the United Kingdom, where it sold 14,359 copies and became the lowest-charting single of their career up to that point (until "Follow Me Home" peaked number at 32 in June 2006) and still remains the lowest-selling single of their career. It eventually resulted in the cancellation of their recording contract with London Records and was the final release featuring Siobhan Donaghy, as she left the group soon after. "Soul Sound" is covered by Indonesian singer, Joy Tobing and available oh her first english studio album, Rise.
