Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. In 1993 Amcoal, now Anglo Coal, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Anglo American, placed three Class E38 locomotives in service at its Landau Colliery near Witbank, Mpumalanga. The South African Class E38 3kV DC electric shunter locomotive was designed by Consortium under the leadership of Siemens and built by Union Carriage and Wagon (UCW) in Nigel, Transvaal. UCW did not allocate builder's numbers to the locomotives it built for Anglo Coal. While the practice by most other locomotive builders was to allocate builder's numbers or works numbers to record the locomotives built by them, UCW simply used the Amcoal road numbers for their record keeping.
