High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! St Andrew's Church, Wroxeter, is a redundant Anglican church in the village of Wroxeter, Shropshire, England. It has been designated by English Heritage as a Grade I listed building, and is under the care of the Churches Conservation Trust. Both the village of Wroxeter and the church stand in the southwest corner of the former Roman town of Viroconium. The church dates back to the Anglo-Saxon period, although the precise date of its foundation in uncertain. There is strong circumstantial evidence that a church was built in the area of the Roman bath in the 5th or 6th century. The sandstone churchyard gate piers were made in the 19th century re-using Roman material. The square bases came from farm buildings, the shafts of the columns from the Roman baths, and the capitals from an unknown source. They contain a pair of cast iron gates, and are listed Grade II.
