The series stars Will Hutchins as the fledgling frontier lawyer from Oklahoma Territory, Tom Brewster, and Jack Elam in occasional episodes as sidekick Toothy Thompson. Brewster was a correspondence-school graduate whose apparent lack of cowboy skills earned him the nickname "Sugarfoot".
