The main idea behind 8BE is that when people are given information in a certain way, they learn and accept those new ideas. This brings about a lot of warping of ideas when they are given the wrong information in the first place. If a person was told from the beginning that she can walk on a bridge made of paper without it collapsing, then without hesitating, she may try to do so, only to find that what was told to her was not true. After that, the person would most probably not try to walk on a paper bridge again. However, if she is told that one can really walk on a paper bridge, she may ignore her own beliefs and try to walk on a paper bridge again only to find out too late that his/her previous beliefs were true. Similarly, many people believe in the answers produced by an 8-ball. Random generic responses such as "Don't bet on it" and "My sources say yes" can greatly affect a person's state of mind and decision-making process, thus affecting the outcome of a certain action taken by that person. In a similar way, when the factors of truth a person requires to believe something are fulfilled, she will very often cast away previous beliefs and replace them with new ones.
