"The Baker & McKenzie International Arbitration Yearbook 2008" is second in the annual series established by the Firm in 2007. This year, the collection of articles on international arbitration is not limited to the European experience, but comprises reports from around the world. Leading lawyers of the Firm`s International Arbitration Practice Group, a subdivision of the Firm`s Global Dispute Resolution Practice Group, share their views on recent developments in national laws relating to arbitration, and address current trends and tendencies in the relevant judicial practice.
Additionally, "Baker & McKenzie" has asked the contributors to report on a special topic: the attitude of national courts regarding the independence and impartiality of arbitrators in international arbitration, an issue that has been the subject of extensive discussions at all levels.
The aim of this Yearbook is to highlight the more important recent developments in international arbitration, without aspiring to be an exhaustive case reporter or a textbook to arbitration in the broad sense. It is hoped that this volume will prove a useful tool for those contemplating arbitration as a means of resolving international business disputes.
