Dr. Vanessa Holmes has been a postsecondary educator for more than 16 years. During this time, she has worked at both Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Predominantly White Institutions. In addition, she has worked in the newspaper, magazine and television fields, including serving as the executive producer and host of a local public affairs television show. She is a seasoned public speaker with plans to do a line of research on success strategies that promote achievement for African American collegians in various types of postsecondary institutions. As a Program Leader with Michigan State University Extension, Dr. Holmes develops curriculum and training around issues of civic engagement and leadership programs for youth and adults. She contributes her professional expertise to efforts focused on evaluating excellence in university teaching, youth dropout prevention, and improving the quality of life for those in underserved communities.
