High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The 2010 Pacific typhoon season was the least active typhoon season since reliable records began with only 14 tropical storms and 8 typhoons forming during the season compared to an average of 27 and 17. The season ran throughout 2010, with the majority of systems during the season forming between July and November. Within the Western Pacific, tropical cyclones between 100°E and 180° were monitored by the Japan Meteorological Agency, and several other National Meteorological and Hydrological Services such as the China Meteorological Administration or the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The United States Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) also issued warnings within the western Pacific, designating tropical cyclones with a number and a W suffix. When a tropical cyclone was observed to have 10 minute sustained windspeeds of at least 65 km/h (40 mph), the JMA assigns the cyclone a name and an international designation. In addition, PAGASA assigns names to tropical cyclones, that enter or form in their area of responsibility.
