It was recorded at the Hartford Civic Center in Hartford, Connecticut, on May 28, 1977, the last show of the band's 26-date east coast tour in the spring of 1977. The band was known for its unique and eclectic style, which fused elements of rock, folk, bluegrass, blues, reggae, country, jazz, psychedelia, and space rock—and for live performances of long musical improvisation.
