High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Tokyo College of Music ( Tokyo Ongaku Daigaku ) was founded as Toyo Conservatory of Music ( Toyo Ongaku Gakko ) in Kanda, Tokyo in 1907. It is the oldest private music school in Japan.The founder , Yonejiro Suzuki, introduced European classical music into the Empire of Japan. The college moved to its current location in Ikebukuro, Tokyo in 1924 after the original campus was destroyed by the Great Kanto Earthquake.The 1923 Great Kanto earthquake ( Kanto daishinsai ) struck the Kanto plain on the Japanese main island of Honshu at 11:58:44 am JST on September 1, 1923. Varied accounts hold that the duration of the earthquake was between 4 and 10 minutes. The quake had a magnitude of 7.9 on the Richter scale, with its focus deep beneath Izu Oshima Island in Sagami Bay.
