Tokyo Yankees is a Japanese metal band that formed in 1988, signed to X-Japan's Yoshiki's Extasy Records label (now defunct), and distributed by Sony Music. Originally a Speed metal band, the band has gone through changes in musical style (now leaning more towards punk rock) but the line-up continues to stay the same. Vocalist Soichiro Umemura recently died after almost twenty years fronting the band.X Japan ( Ekkusu Japan ) is a Japanese heavy metal band founded in 1982 by Toshimitsu "Toshi" Deyama and Yoshiki Hayashi. Originally named X, the group achieved its breakthrough success in 1989 with the release of their second album Blue Blood. They started out as a power/speed metal band and later gravitated towards a progressive sound, at all times retaining an emphasis on ballads. After three more albums, X Japan disbanded in 1997.
