It opened in 1956, and has been the site for production of many of GM's Hydra-Matic transmissions since. In February 2006, GM announced that they would invest $500 million to expand the plant to produce the six-speed 6L80 in 2008. The 6L80 is currently built at Willow Run Transmission.General Motors Company, also known as GM, is a United States-based automaker with headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. GM manufactures cars and trucks in 34 countries, recently employed 244,500 people around the world, and sells and services vehicles in some 140 countries.
