Lovatt Williams, was a British poet and writer about railways.His best-known poem, "Oxford", was broadcast several times on the BBC programme Poetry Please!, and is included in the anthology of favourite poems from that programme. His novel "The Gentle Years" was read on the BBC's Book at Bedtime.He was also a railway worker. Having studied as an engineering apprentice at Crewe, he was works manager at various places on the LNW system, and later LMS.Poetry Please is a weekly radio programme broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in which listeners request poems, which are then read by a cast of actors. The current presenter is Roger McGough. Performers regularly include some of the top names in British acting - Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, Prunella Scales and Timothy West.The programme marked its 25th year in 2004 and is known to be the longest running poetry programme broadcast anywhere in the world.
