His work, while heavily centred in Canada, has grown to include golf courses in Europe and The Caribbean. He is the principal and founder of Thomas McBroom Associates Ltd., a Toronto-based landscape architecture firm specializing in golf course design. McBroom holds a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) from the University of Guelph.McBroom is frequently cited as Canada's premier golf architect. Twelve McBroom designs are listed in SCOREGolf magazine's 2006 ranking of Canada's top 100 courses - more than any other living architect. McBroom is an outspoken critic of the Royal Canadian Golf Association's handling of the Canadian Open. He has also condemned Augusta National Golf Club's - site of The Masters Tournament - repeated efforts to lengthen the golf course arguing that extra yardage compromises both strategic shot making and overall tournament excitement.
