He was elected to the Royal Academy of Arts in 2007. Stylistically, he is a figurative artist, and has been described as working in a manner similar to Francis Bacon and Frank Auerbach; he also paints architectural subjects. He uses acrylic paint and charcoal in creating his paintings.
