Turridae, common name, the turrids, was a taxonomic family name that was given to a very large group of predatory sea snails, marine gastropod mollusks, which vary in size from minute to moderately large. With more than 4,000 species, the Turridae (sensu Powell 1966) was the largest mollusk family and group of marine caenogastropods. There were about 27,000 described scientific names (accepted names and synonyms) within the family Turridae. Turrids constitute more than half of the predatory species of gastropods in some parts of the world (Taylor et al. 1980).
