High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! UFTP is a UDP-based file transfer protocol and the name of a tool that implements that protocol. It was developed by Dennis Bush, and is designed for particularly efficient file transfers under scenarios where the file is to be broadcast/multicast or the transfer occurs over a wireless link (such as satellite). However, in low-error, high-bandwidth or high-latency scenarios, it can outperform TCP-based protocols such as FTP by 100% or more. The UFTP protocol is based on the Starburst MFTP protocol, from the now-defunct company Starburst Communications. The User Datagram Protocol (UDP) is one of the core members of the Internet Protocol Suite, the set of network protocols used for the Internet. With UDP, computer applications can send messages, in this case referred to as datagrams, to other hosts on an Internet Protocol (IP) network without requiring prior communications to set up special transmission channels or data paths. UDP is sometimes called the Universal Datagram Protocol. The protocol was designed by David P. Reed in 1980 and formally defined in RFC 768.
