United Federal Credit Union (UFCU) is a federally chartered, natural person credit union based in St. Joseph, Michigan. UFCU has assets of $1.2 Billion, 100,000 members, and more than 20 branches operating in Michigan, Ohio, Arkansas, North Carolina, and Nevada.United Federal Credit Union was originally chartered in 1949 by eight employees of the Nineteen Hundred Corporation. By 1955, assets for the credit union reached $1 million. The Nineteen Hundred Corporation changed its name to the Whirlpool Corporation and the credit union followed suit, renaming itself the Whirlpool Employees Federal Credit Union (WEFCU). The credit union relocated to a new building in downtown St. Joseph, Michigan in 1963. After dramatic growth in the previous decade, in 1980 WEFCU merged with a credit union serving the Whirlpool employees in Marion, Ohio.
