Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. USS Wichita (CA-45) was a heavy cruiser of the United States Navy. The lead ship and only member of her class, she was the first ship named after the city of Wichita, Kansas. Wichita served in combat throughout World War II: first to protect convoys on the Murmansk Run and amphibious landings during Operation Torch in the European Theater in 1942, then throughout the Pacific Theater in 1943-45. Wichita served as part of the occupation force in Japan after the war, then in the "mothball fleet," before being scrapped in 1959.
