The first USS Woolsey (DD-77) was a Wickes-class destroyer in the United States Navy during the World War I. She was named for Melancthon Taylor Woolsey. Woolsey was laid down on 1 November 1917 at Bath, Maine, by the Bath Iron Works; launched on 17 September 1918; sponsored by Mrs. Elise Campau Wells; and commissioned on 30 September 1918, Lieutenant Commander Frederick V. McNair, Jr. in command.
