High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Van Biesbroeck is a small lunar impact crater that interrupts the southern rim of the lava-flooded crater Krieger, in the Oceanus Procellarum. The crater is circular and symmetrical, with sloping inner walls that run down to a small interior floor. Van Biesbroeck was designated Krieger B before the IAU gave it a unique name. In the broadest sense, the term impact crater can be applied to any depression, natural or manmade, resulting from the high velocity impact of a projectile with a larger body. In most common usage, the term is used for the approximately circular depression in the surface of a planet, moon or other solid body in the Solar System, formed by the hyper-velocity impact of a smaller body with the surface.
