Mestre station is on the other side of the Ponte della Liberta (Freedom Bridge) on the mainland. The station is a modern structure compared to the historical buildings surrounding it, and was built on the site of the Santa Lucia church from which its name is derived. It is connected to the rest of Venice through the Vaporetto (public water bus) or private taxi boats. The station is the terminus of the Venice Simplon Orient Express.
