Vodafone Hutchison Australia is the result of a merger between Vodafone Australia and Hutchison 3G Australia (the Australian subsidiary of Hutchison 3G, known by its '3' brand). It created a mobile communications entity with 6 million subscribers, $4bn in annual sales and a 27 per cent market share. The joint venture entity is owned by Hutchison Telecommunications Australia (a subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa) and by the Vodafone Group PLC on a 50-50 basis. .
