He was the younger son of the legendary Ustad Imdad Khan and his grandfather Ustad Sahabdad Khan learnt vocal music from the great Ustad Haddu Khansahab and Ustad Hassu Khansahab of Gwalior Gharana, and Been and Surbahar from the famous Beenkar Nirmal Shah or Miya Mauj. Ustad Wahid Khansahab was the father of Ustad Aziz Khan and Ustad Hafeez Khan. Ustad Hafeez Khan was a celebrated playback singer, known in the film industry as 'H. Khan Mastana' and his brother, Ustad Aziz Khan would also carry on the family's musical traditions and go on to make significant contributions to Indian Classical Music. His nephews Ustad Vilayat Khan and Ustad Imrat Khan were also his disciples. Ustad Wahid Khan is the grandfather of sitar maestro Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan.
