High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Walter Hoppe (1912 – November 3, 1986) was a German physicist and electron microscopist.Walter Hoppe was born in Sudetenland. He was professor and departmental head at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry from 1957 until his retirement in 1985.His most important contributions were in the 1970s and 1980s were based on his experience with x-ray and electron diffraction from which he derived pioneering theories and experimental studies of the practicability of performing high resolution three dimensional reconstructions of minute particles (e.g. ribosomes) in negatively-stained electron microscope preparations. His ideas of combining many images of the same specimen recorded over a wide range of tilt angles, followed by reconstruction of the three-dimensional object via mathematical manipulations involving Fourier space transforms constitute the basis of many extant 3D reconstruction techniques, including computer tomography in medicine and internal investigation of materials.
