The West African Giraffe, Niger Giraffe or Nigerien Giraffe (Giraffa camelopardalis peralta) is a subspecies of giraffe distinguished by its light colored spots, which is found in the Sahel regions of West Africa. In the 19th century it ranged in pockets from Senegal to Cameroon, yet in 2008 this subspecies survives in two to three isolated populations of around 100 wild individuals. Its last self-sustaining herd is in southwest Niger.
