Competing in three Winter Olympics, he earned his best finish of seventh in the two-man event at Salt Lake City in 2002. Stampfer's best finish at the FIBT World Championships was sixth in the two-man event at St. Moritz in 2007. Bobsleigh or bobsled is a winter sport in which teams of two or four make timed runs that are combined to make your final score you slide down narrow, twisting, banked, iced tracks in a gravity-powered sled. The various types of sleds came several years before the first tracks were built in St. Moritz, Switzerland, where the original bobsleds were adapted upsized luge/skeleton sleds designed by the adventurously wealthy to carry passengers.
