It grows in all states and territories other than the Australian Capital Territory. The plant is an erect, normally annual, herb which is simple or rarely branched at base. It grows from 20-80 cm in height. Inflorescence bracts are yellow, with intermediate bracts bright yellow or rarely white, outer bracts pale yellow and often streaked reddish or brown.
