High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Xestia is a genus of moths in the family Noctuidae. It includes many species living at high latitude, in tundra and taiga ecosystems. Some have two-year (semivoltine) life-cycles and only occur as adults every other year. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth, with thousands of species yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are crepuscular and diurnal species. Moths are not easily differentiated from butterflies. Sometimes the name "Heterocera" is used for moths while the term "Rhopalocera" is used for butterflies to formalize the popular distinction; these, however, have no taxonomic validity.
