It is found from central Europe to Morocco, Turkey, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan and Syria. The wingspan is 36-42 mm. Adults are on wing between July and November depending on the location. There is one generation per year. The larvae feed on various shrubs, including Calluna, Sarothamnus, Vaccinium and Poaceae. A moth is an insect closely related to the butterfly, both being of the order Lepidoptera. Moths form the majority of this order; there are thought to be 150,000 to 250,000 different species of moth, with thousands of species yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are crepuscular and diurnal species.
