High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Xi Aquilae b is an extrasolar planet approximately 200 light-years away in the constellation of Aquila. The planet was discovered orbiting the yellow giant star Xi Aquilae in 2008. The planet has a minimum mass of 2.8 Jupiter and a period of 137 days. An extrasolar planet, or exoplanet, is a planet outside the Solar System. As of June 21, 2010, astronomers have made confirmed detections of 462 such planets. The vast majority have been observed through radial velocity observations and other indirect methods rather than actual imaging. Most are giant planets thought to resemble Jupiter; this partly reflects a sampling bias in that more massive planets are easier to detect with current technology.
