High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Xi Cancri is a spectroscopic binary in the constellation Cancer. It is approximately 381 light years from Earth. The primary component, ? Cancri A, is a yellow G-type giant with an apparent magnitude of +5.16. Its companion, ? Cancri B, is 0.1 arcseconds from the primary. The two stars complete one orbit about their common centre of mass once every 4.66 years. A binary star is a star system consisting of two stars orbiting around their common center of mass. The brighter star is called the primary and the other is its companion star, comes, or secondary. Research between the early 1800s and today suggests that many stars are part of either binary star systems or star systems with more than two stars, called multiple star systems.
