Jia Yan worked primarily in television, directing three tv movies before joining the China Film Group as a screenwriter. In 2004, under the name of Xiao Jiang, she wrote and directed her debut film, Electric Shadows. A film director is a person who directs the actors and crew in the making of a film. He or she controls a film's artistic and dramatic aspects, while guiding the technical crew and actors.
