High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Xiphodontidae is an extinct family of even-toed ungulates, endemic to Europe during the Eocene 40.4—33.9 Ma, existing for approximately 6.5 million years. They were, most likely, all terrestrial herbivores. Xiphodontidae was named by Flower (1883). It was assigned to Artiodactyla by Cope (1889); to Xiphodontoidea by Hooker (1986); and to Tylopoda by Carroll (1988). Chordates (phylum Chordata) are animals which are either vertebrates or one of several closely related invertebrates. They are united by having, for at least some period of their life cycle, a notochord, a hollow dorsal nerve cord, pharyngeal slits, an endostyle, and a post-anal tail.
