It was created in 2001 by Daniela Florescu (XQRL Inc.), Andreas Grunhagen and Donald Kossmann (ETH Zurich). XL is still under development and is based on the XML data model. It supports the W3C standards and uses XQuery as a query language, SOAP to communicate with other web services and WSDL to specify the interfaces. A programming language is an artificial language designed to express computations that can be performed by a machine, particularly a computer.
