High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! XLDB refers to eXtremely Large Data Bases. The definition of extremely large will clearly evolve with time. In 2007-2010 time frame, XLDB refers to databases whose size is 1 petabyte or greater. In October 2007 the XLDB experts gathered at SLAC for the First Workshop on Extremely Large Databases. As a result, the XLDB research community was formed. A database is an integrated collection of logically-related records or files consolidated into a common pool that provides data for one or more multiple uses. Other classification methods start from examining database models or database architectures: see below. Software organizes the data in a database according to a database model. As of 2010[update] the relational model occurs most commonly.
