Its current specification is v1.2 (as of 2008-01-22). The specification is aimed at the localization industry. It specifies elements and attributes to aid in localization. XLIFF forms part of the Open Architecture for XML Authoring and Localization (OAXAL) reference architecture. XML (Extensible Markup Language) is a set of rules for encoding documents electronically. It is defined in the XML 1.0 Specification produced by the W3C and several other related specifications; all are fee-free open standards.
