High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The XM395 Precision Guided Mortar Munition (PGMM) was a 120 mm laser-guided mortar round under development by Alliant Techsystems. The mortar round has no moving parts and maneuvers itself to the target by means of embedded thruster motors. The guidance system shares the same Distributed Aperture Semi-Active Laser Seeker (DASALS) technology as the BAE Systems APKWS II rocket system. Laser guidance is a technique of guiding a missile or other projectile or vehicle to a target by means of a laser beam. Some laser guided systems utilise beam riding guidance, but most operate more similarly to semi-active radar homing (SARH). This technique is sometimes called SALH, for Semi-Active Laser Homing.
