Yang is a grade one student at a Primary School associated with Beijing University. Her teacher described the young girl in her blog as a gifted student at the school. "She doesn't like to show off. She's easygoing. She is cute and well-behaved, with a love for Beijing Opera." At the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony, 9-year-old Lin Miaoke, was seen performing Ode to the Motherland while listeners heard the voice of Yang Peiyi. The vast majority who watched the broadcast did not know of Yang Peiyi's role until several days later when music director Chen Qigang acknowledged it. Yang's first album was released in September 2009.
