High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! A Yard Light is a free standing light source, often electrical or natural gas, usually placed near an outdoor path or driveway to provide visibility in dark areas or areas that become dark at certain times. Electric yard lights are often controlled remotely from inside a building by a switch or by a Photoelectric sensor attached to the lamp or a building nearby. Gas lights usually burn continually. Yard lamps must withstand all sorts of weather, snow, ice, rain, wind, and therefore must be securely sealed. Any water that gets inside can shatter the bulb, short circuit the wiring, or extinguish the flame. Yard Lights should be the correct size for the distance that is desired to be lighted. A light that is too large can seem imposing, and illuminate beyond a useful range, conversely one that is too small for the area may leave dark transitions. Yard lights can be placed in a prominent spot as they are also a decorative element.
