High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Yasotha Somasundran, born in Singapore in 1930, is an Indian musician, composer and music tutor, who between the 1970s and late 1980s was regularly performing on Tamil radio and TV as leader of the then popular family band “KN” Music Party. Yasotha quit her musical and broadcasting career after she got married in 1948. But soon after the advent of television in the mid-1960s, husband Somasundram encouraged Yasotha to resume public performances and even became her official manager. Thus, Yasotha and her five children launched the “KN 5” band, which later expanded and was renamed “KN Music Party”. Yasotha, who used to play classical music on the harmonium until then, had none of the qualms of classical music purists about switching to popular Indian music. She also created something of a revolution in the Indian music scene in Singapore at that time by taking up the organ. Soon, Yasotha and her band became a regular feature on Tamil radio and TV and won several music competitions.
