Born in Sargodha District of Pakistan, he completed his education from Rohtak and pursued photography passionately. He soon rose to be one of the finest photo artists of the country. In his formative years, he lectured on the subject of photography, authored books and wrote columns. His first one-man photographic exhibition was held at Triveni Art Gallery in New Delhi in 1970. Since then he participated in more than 50 national level photographic exhibitions and was a judge in over a dozen such shows. His published works include over 1,000 pictures pertaining to news, human interest themes and spontaneous pictorial depictions in international newspapers, periodicals and books. He has been credited for taking the concept of photo journalism to new heights through his over 20 years of work with The Tribune, of which he went on to become the photo editor.
