High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Youth in Music championships are a marching band competition held annually at the HHH Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota in late October. Participating are the top-ranked high school marching bands from Minnesota, as well as participants from Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Nebraska. Due to the timing of the event, at the end of the field show season, it is considered to determine the Minnesota State Champion band. The program was begun in 2005 by Eden Prairie's Brent Turner, a former Corps Director of the Minnesota Brass Drum and Bugle Corps. Marching band is a group of instrumental musicians and usually dance teams / color guard who generally perform outdoors and incorporate some type of marching (and possibly onto other movements) with their musical performance. Instrumentation typically includes brass, woodwinds, and percussion instruments. Most marching bands use some kind of uniform (often of a military style) that include the school or organization's name or symbol, shakos, pith helmets, feather plumes, gloves, and sometimes gauntlets, sashes, and/or capes.
