High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! In the city Ypacarai, in Paraguay, since the year 1971, between August and September, a folklore festival is organized, with great emphasis in all kinds of cultural manifestations. The purpose is to maintain alive the memory of great people that have become icons in the diverse artistic disciplines. Above all, it is to promote the appreciation for art. The Festival of the Lake, as it is called, starts in 1971, initiative of a group of citizens of the city Ypacarai that were fond of the folklore, with the purpose of celebrating the anniversary of the foundation of the district. The first festival was organized in September. It presented a valid alternative to encourage the love for the things that were authentically national, against the new musical tendencies of foreign origin that had fast acceptance among the young people. In this first edition of the festival the organization made homage to Demetrio Ortiz, author of the Guarania (music genre) that is representative of the city “Recuerdos de Ypacarai” (Memories of Ypacarai), who in spite of the hard regimen that ruled the country in those times, could make a presence at the festival.
